Bank strike hit money transaction in Berhampur

Berhampur: On the bandh call from United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) in all over India on August 5, all the bank employees and officers of UFBU Berhampur Zonal Committee went on strike on Friday here.

UFBU has ten lakh bank employees and officers in all over India which has nine other bank unions went on strike demanding the fulfillment of 21 charter demand on Friday.

Common people of the city and nearby areas of the city were returned from the bank when they knew the news of bank strike. Transactions of money along with other bank works of the Government offices, private farms and business farms were hit by the strike.

Convener of UFBU Odisha State Unit Ganesh Chandra Mishra told that if the Government will not solve these demands, it would affect on the economy of the country. The common people of India will not get appropriate banking facilities, whereas the elite people and industrialists of India and abroad are showing supremacy in banking industry. He lamented that if these trend continue, the indigenous value of the banking industry will gradually decrease.

More than 4,000 branches in Odisha of different bank were closed due to the strike call by bank employees and officers on Friday.

“We have called a one day strike ion all over India demanding the fulfillment of 21 charter demand. Government is doing conspiracy by allowing the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Indian banking sector which will help the industrialists and elites of the society”, said Berhampur SBI Employees Union Krushna Chandra Padhy.

“We demand compassionate appointment for the family members of the bank employees and pension system in all the banks of SBI like government sector”, he added.

Block grant staffs of 159 High school of Ganjam circle joins in the strike

...block grant high school teaching and non-teaching staffs start indefinite stir.

Berhampur: Block Grant High School teachers and employees union of Ganjam circle sat in indefinite dharna from August 1 demanding hike in salary and full grant for the block grant teaching and non-teaching staffs here.

There are 159 block grant high school in Ganjam circle. All block grant high schools were locked by their union from Monday. The teaching and non-teaching staffs demanded hike in salary who have been working for more than 25 years and cent percent grant for block grant staffs.

On the first day of strike, the union of block grant high school teaching and non-teaching staffs agitated in front of the office of Circle Inspector of Ganjam. The union then locked the CI office. They condemned governements inaction to implement their commitment, which was given by the Ministry of Schools and Mass Education of the state before.

They also cleared that they will not take part in any government sponsored works even the paper valuation work of matric examination, BPL survey, upcoming Panchayat Election work unless untill their demand is not fullfilled.

"We will not accept block grant in any circumstance. If the Government call for a discussion, we prefer discuss with Chief Minister only not with others, because within six years, we have 18 discussions, but we have not get any result except assurance. So, we decided to continue the agitation till the demand is not fullfilled", said a veteran member of Ganjam District Block Grant Schools teachers Union Pradeep Kumar Panda on Tuesday.

On the day of dharna in front of the CI office, leaders of different party include former Deputy Speaker Ramachandra Panda, District Congress President Bhagaban Gantayat, Pradesh Congress Committee member Bikram Panda and Sambhu Panigrahy, CPI (M) leader Ali Kishore Patnaik and Banamali Panigrahy with others were joined in the dharna to support the demand of the teachers of Ganjam Circle.

After family planning woman dies in MKCG medical

Berhampur: Getting severe pain in abdomen after family planning operation, a woman died in MKCG medical college and hospital on Monday here.

R Mahadei Reddy, wife of R Narasingha Reddy of Gautami village under Sadar Thana area of Sanakhemundi block of Ganjam district was taken for family planning on July 24 last week to a nearby family planning camp. After family planning operation, she got pain in her abdomen. She was taken to Adapada Community Health Center (CHC) for treatment.

After some day’s treatment, the condition of the patient could not be improved. The Adapada CHC forwarded her to Berhampur City Hospital on Monday, but the case was very critical. So they forwarded her to MKCG medical for further treatment, yet she could not be saved, died in the hospital.

Local people agitated against the ill-treatment of the woman and callousness of the doctors, who have done the family planning operation.

Broad day light firing in Berhampur, claims 1

Berhampur: Taking into old rivalry, a youth shot at Dharmanagar’s Haridakhandi square here on Monday by a person of the same area in a broad day light in the city.

According to the police, Tarini Patra and Tukuna Rout both have criminal records before. Tarini had attacked Tukuna’s brother and caused severe injury, for which Tarini was caught by police and forwarded to juvenile court as he was under eighteen. This incident fuelled anger in Tukuna for taking revenge of his brother’s half murder incident. After Tarini’s return from jail, Tukuna was in the search of an opportunity to take revenge.

On the day of incident, Tukuna came to a Pan shop near Haridakhandi square at Dharmanagar, where Tarini was talking with a friend. Tukuna started arguing with him, then fired him pointing to his lower chest following a few minutes clash with each other.

Tarini rushed to MKCG medical, but after few hours, he was declared dead while the treatment was going on.This was the outburst of anger of old rivalry between the victim Tarini and accused Tukuna, said SDPO of Berhampur Sarat Chandra Mahapatra. The Badabazaar police are looking into the matter and started enquiry into the case. The accused Tukuna was arrested by the police on Monday after the incident.

Farmer bodies of CPI (M) demand free seeds and crop loss compensation

Berhampur: Farmers local body of Communist Party of India (Marxist) organized a rally demanding free seeds, crop loss compensation and supply of land for the landless farmers on Saturday here.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) of Kukudakhandi block local committee were set out in a procession, where hundreds of land less labour and farmer of Ankushpur, Ratanpur, Balkrushnapur, Baghajhari, Baiganabadi of Kukudakhandi block were joined in the rally.

They demanded at the Government to provide them land and house Patta for landless and homeless labour and farmer of the block, to supply those free seeds as the drought situation is severely hit the area and to distribute immediately crop loss compensation to the farmer.

The farmers and CPI (M) workers hand over the memorandum to the Sub-collector of Berhampur to take further step on their demand.

1 killed, 2 injured in road mishap

Berhampur: One person killed and two injured in a road accident as the sand load truck collided with the bike near Khodasingi petrol pump here on Saturday.

Santanu Padhi of Lanjipalli area with his friend Suryanarayana Acharya from Kanchudu was coming to Berhampur riding a Hero Honda motorbike. While entering to the city the bike crashed with a person named Shekhar Patnaik, who was crossing the road at that time. Biker Santanu Padhi and his friend felled off from the bike, after collided with Shekhar.

Meanwhile, a sand load truck returned from the city crossed over them near Khodasingi petrol pump here. Hero Honda bike ripped to pieces in crash and Santanu died in the spot. Other two persons Shekhar and Surya, who were severely injured in the accident rushed to the MKCG medical college and hospital for treatment.
