Former Minister’s brother arrested in acid attack case

BHUBANESWAR: President of an NGO ‘Biswa’ Khirod Chandra Mallick, brother of former minister and BJD MLA Pramila Mallick, was arrested by the police in connection with Mancheswar acid attack case after his bail plea was denied in the lower court here on Thursday. Bhubaneswar JMFC court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Mallick has already received a conditional bail from the High Court in Namita Padhi firing case at Mancheswar, but he was directed to present at the lower court to get the bail. According to the direction, he surrendered at the JMFC court 1 on Thursday. Meanwhile, on a tip off, the police reached the court and presented the other two cases against Mallick at the court. He got bail in Mancheswar firing case, but failed to get a bail in the acid attack case.

However, Mallick’s lawyer Dharanidhar Nayak condemned the behaviour of the police, who took Mallick from the court premises, and said that he will appeal against the police before the Human Rights Commission and also in the upper court.
