child labourers rescued in capital
BRAHMAPUR/BHUBANESWAR:
The Childline Brahmapur with the help of the city police rescued 16 girls,
including 12 minors, from the Brahmapur Railway Station on Friday. The girls
were waiting for train to go to Secunderabad to work in a juice making factory,
police sources said.
On
a tip-off, Childline sent two teams with the police to the railway station to
examine whether the information was correct or not. After interrogating the
girls, the team found the information was correct.
Immediately,
the police and the Childline teams rescued the girls and have started quizzing
a woman Sanju Mallick of Sorada, who persuaded the girls to go to Secunderabad.
According
to Campaign Against Child Labour (CACL) State convener and Childline Brahmapur
director Sudhir Sabat, the girls belong to Kukudakhandi, Digapahandi and Sorada
blocks of Ganjam district. “The trafficker, a man from Hyderabad, escaped from
the spot while rescue operation was going on,” said Sabat.
In
another search operation jointly conducted by the Childline Bhubaneswar, the
Commissionerate Police, the District Child Protection Officer and DI of
schools, four child labourers were rescued from the capital city on Friday.
The
children, belong to Dhenkanal and Dasapalla areas, were working in a hotel at
