Chit-fund scam: CBI raids continue for second day

BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continued its raids on the Navadiganta Capital Services Limited, a chit-fund firm, for the second consecutive day on Friday. A team of the agency conducted raid on the residence of a director of the company at Hanspal on the outskirts of the city.

Sources said the team has seized several important documents which would help the officers during the interrogation of the director Kartikyya Parida in connection with the scam.

Though the officers were tightlipped about the search operations, sources said, they would conduct raids on the houses of the directors to get important clues in the case.

On Thursday, the CBI had conducted raids at 20 places in the State including the Navadiganta Company’s office in Nayapalli and the house of another director Pardeep Kumar Patnaik. It had also raided residences of BJD MP from Mayurbhanj Ramachandra Hansdah, former BJD MLA from Keonjhar Subarna Naik and former BJP MLA from Khariar Hitesh Bagarti for their link with the company as founder members.

Notably, the Navadiganta Company registered in 2011 has allegedly duped thousands of gullible investors by collecting crores of rupees from them. It had opened branches in Bhubaneswar, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal districts and had duped more than 2000 investors of around Rs 70 crore on the promise of hefty returns.
