Anti-encroachment demolition drive picks up pace in Silk city


Berhampur: Anti-encroachment demolition drive has been started from Monday at Sano Bazaar in the city to widen the road, which was encroached by the shop keepers and business establishments of Sano Bazaar, Bada Bazaar and Hanuman Bazaar.
With the help of police force, Bulldozer entered to Sano Bazaar, Bada Bazaar and Hanuman Bazaar for demolition drive in the area. Hundreds of shops were crushed by the Bulldozer. Even the Hanuman Temple was not escaped from it. Some portions of the temple were demolished. While the demolition drive at Hanuman temple the Bajrang Dal, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), BJP Krushak Morcha and some inhabitants of the area opposed the demolition of the temple. After the interference of BMC to transfer the deity to nearby Raghunath temple after a ritualistic displacement, the protesters left the place.
In the demolition drive, Sub-collector Ajit Mishra, Tehsildar Satrughna Kar, BMC Mayor Shiv Shankar Das, BDA Commissioner Bhim Manseth, Berhampur SP Safeen Ahmed K, SDPO Sarat Mahapatra, magistrate along with the police force were present on the first day. On Tuesday, the anti-encroachment demolition reached to Bada Bazaar. Administration has given 7 days to the shop keepers. After 7 days, the Bulldozer will demolish the half-demolished shops, houses completely.
