Pouring of devotees in Shaiba shrines in Ganjam


Berhampur: Last Monday of the sacred month ‘Kartika’ (according to Hindu calendar) which is regarded as the most holy day of sacred month ‘Kartika’ for visiting and bowing to the Lord Shiva witnessed out pouring of devotees in various Shaiba shrines in the district.
According to the belief of the devotees, on the auspicious day of the sacred month, if someone visits eight Shiba temples or five Shiba temples on that particular day, then it is regarded as holy action and virtue of the person. Devotees visit to eight and five Shiba temple is called as ‘Asthasambhu’ and Panchamahadev Darshan’ respectively.
The another coincidence is that the last Monday of the month Kartika this year also fell in the sacred ‘Panchuka Brata’, a religious vow observed by the devotees (Habishyalis). The devotees observe a vow for the last five days of the sacred month Kartika which is popularly known as ‘Panchuka’.
On the auspicious occasion of ‘Panchuka’, to visit the Shiva temples brings happiness and peace among the devotees. The famous Shaiba shrines in the district were geared up for the last Monday. For the day, temporary shops were installed near the courtyard of the shrines and temples by the local peoples, shop keepers. Some shrines were cordoned by district police to manage the crowd.
As the educational institutions were declared the sacred Monday as holiday, most of the school and college students were found enjoying the day to visit the shrines and arranging picnic party there. More than hundreds of Shaiba shrines in the district witnessed thousands of devotees in each shrine.
Dhabaleswar near Gopalpur-on-sea was the hot spot for the young devotees as it is famous for picnic in the scenic beauty of hustling casuarinas jungle very near to the Bay of Bengal. Like that another two spots Bateswar of Kantiagada and Aleswar of Prayagi in the border of Ganjam district were also famous for its scenic beauty of sea and casuarinas forest.
Dakhineswar of Bhanjanagar, Budhakhola in Buguda, Panchanana and Budhalingeswar of Sorada block and so on were the center point of attraction of the devotees.  
Apart from that, Ishaneswar of Randha and Loknatheswar of Kolathigaon under Rangeilunda block, Gokarneswar of Sukunda, Sandheswar of Ralaba are the part of Asthasambhu of Mahurigada king’s dynasty were also received thousands of devotees on Monday.
