Discoms urged for uninterrupted power supply during vote counting

BHUBANESWAR: To ensure uninterrupted supply of power to the vote counting centres on May 16, the State Energy department has urged four distribution companies (discoms) operating in the State to look into the matter.

A letter of the department also directed the discoms to deploy technical staff in those centres to avoid any interruption in power supply.

“Since the counting of votes of general election to Lok Sabha and Odisha Legislative Assembly is scheduled to be held on May 16 at different centres in the State, immediate and necessary arrangements be made for an uninterrupted power supply to those centres,” said the letter.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday discussed in detail through videoconference with the District Election Officers (DEOs) about the security and smooth execution of the counting process in the centres across the State.

Notably, counting of votes would be held in 159 halls in 64 centres in the State in which about 12,000 employees would be engaged.
