BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to strengthen security in and around the Biju Patnaik Airport, the Commissionerate Police officials along with airport authority members and officials of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) discussed in detail in a meeting here on Monday about the beginning of construction work of the Airport police station and other security related issues.

One year and three months have passed since Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the Airport police station building on March 27, but its construction work is yet to be started. Twin City Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma in the meeting said the construction work would be started soon.

Taking into account the rising criminal activities in the airport area, Sharma said police patrolling would be stepped up in the area. The police would keep eye on drunkards and antisocial on the road connecting to the airport.

Meanwhile, Airport authorities agreed to fix lights in the dark areas near the road. Parking system in the airport would be streamlined along with other security check-ups, they added.
