Police interfere in minor girl’s marriage

Berhampur : Marriage of minors now an old tradition, still in 21st century it is practiced in some areas. On Friday, Badabazaar police of the city rescued a minor girl, whom the family members were forced for the marriage with a man from Kanpur.

Congress Jena of Trimurthy Jagannath street under Badabazaar police station of the city had planned for the marriage of hi9s daughter with a Kanpur man from Uttar Pradesh. After the planning he arranged the marriage in a Jagannath temple near his street. The marriage ceremony started in the morning time on Friday. At the time of marriage Badabazaar police reached there and rescued the minor girl, who is under 18.

“The girl was mentally imbalanced and minor girl. The family members were forcefully arranged the marriage. We reached there and rescued the girl”, said Badabazaar Inspector In-charge Siba Prasad Biswal.

Family members of the minor girl were called to the police station for counseling and further enquiry. The girl is sent to child home after police rescue.
