Sarpanch brutally killed in people’s court in Malkangiri

MALKANGIRI: A sarpanch was brutally killed by the Maoists in Malkangiri district’s Chitrakonda area on the suspicion of being a police informer, police said on Wednesday. He was identified as Kurmanur panchayat Sarpanch Bhagban Krisani.

According to the Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh, a group of about 25 Maoists struck at the house of Krisani late on Tuesday night and asked him to accompany them. The deceased’s body was found with his throat slit along a forest road near the village on Wednesday morning, he added.

The armed Maoists after entering into the village, called the sarpanch for a meeting. They took him to a nearby jingle, 1km from the village, and gave him death sentence at the Praja court. The ultras left a poster at the spot where Krisnani was murdered.

The security forces have intensified combing operation in the area in the aftermath of the incident, the police said.
