‘Women organisations need to be strengthened’



--International Women’s Day celebrated in city

BHUBANESWAR: “Women organisations and communities need to be strengthened in the State to fight for their rights,” said feminists attending a two-day long State-level International Women’s Day ceremony organised by the National Alliance for Women Odisha (NAWO) here on Saturday.

Gracing the occasion, women leaders like Jayanti Manjari Rath, Pramila Swain, Tapasi Praharaj and Saila Behera said the women are on the right path to get their longstanding demands of equality and end of violence against them. “We have witnessed a positive development in our struggle and we will celebrate the success on the Women’s Day,” said the leaders.

Theme of the Women’s Day for this year is- ‘Equality for women is progress for all’. Around 500 women activists across the State attended the ceremony.

In the meet, the women leaders raised different issues related to land rights for women, empowerment and economic and political rights to the women.
