1 dead, 3 missing in Baitarani in Keonjhar



KEONJHAR: In an unfortunate incident, a student died and other three were drowned in the river Baitarani near Anandpur in Keonjhar district on Monday while they were immersing idols of goddess Khudurukuni in the river. Four have been rescued, while the others are yet to be fished out.

At around 10 am, over 200 revelers came in a procession with their idols and gathered at Atta ghat in Anandpur to immerse their goddess. While helping the girls in immersing the idols, the students slipped into the current of the swollen river, said the fellow revelers who were present over there.

Total eight students of a local high school went missing when they were busy in idol immersion in the river. Four of them were rescued by the local people, out of which two were admitted in hospital in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, body of Priyabrata Pagal, an eighth class student of a local high school, was fished out. After getting information from the locals, Anandpur fire department officials rushed the spot and have started search operation to rescue the three missing students.
