BJP, BJD protest petrol hike


Berhampur: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized protest meeting and burnt effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi opposing petrol hike at Komapalli square on Saturday here.
The party claimed that UPA Government is not thinking about common people and hikes petrol rate time to time, which directly and indirectly affects the public. Party also demanded in the meeting to decrease VAT on essential commodity.
President of Ganjam BJP demanded to rollback the decision of petrol hike and to take the petroleum product under government’s control soon.  Among others, Secretary of Ganjam BJP Gopinath Panda, President of District Youth BJP Sunil Sahu, President of Ganjam BJP Krushak Morcha Ram Kumar Patro, President of BJP women front Bhanupriya Panigrhy and others were present in the protest rally.
Similarly, a protest by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) organized a protest meeting at Old Bus Stand here on Saturday opposing petrol hike by Union Government.
The party demanded the government should withdraw the decision of petrol hike. They alleged that the UPA is a government of corrupt politicians and ministers who were involved in various scams and scandals. Due to rampant corruption in the country in the period of UPA, the common people are suffering problems.
In the meeting, Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahy, Kailash Rana, Ranjan Polai, Subash Maharana were present .
