BHUBANESWAR: The Nikhil Utkal Gruharakhi Mahasangha, an association of home guards, called off their strike on Friday as the State Government assured them to fulfill their demands.
Demanding hike in salary like the home guards of West Bengal and to recommend them as fourth grade employees of the State Government, the home guards had started demonstration from Wednesday in front of the State Assembly.
Following the decisions to hike in stipend from Rs 150 to 200 per day and other facilities demanded by the home guards, the strike was called off. “We are happy that the Government heard our voice. Two major demands were fulfilled out of five and other three demands will be fulfilled later,” said president of the home guards’ association Sanjay Kumar Behera.
On the third day of the strike, plying of PCR vans partially hit in the city as the home guard drivers joined in the strike. But, after few hours of the driver shortage problem due to the strike, the Commissionerate Police solved the problem by engaging other drivers.
