BHUBANESWAR: After a long working life, an elder person wants a blissful retired life with family members. But, now-a-days it turned into a myth for some unfortunate elderly people in the country who don’t get favour of his family and spend a miserable life with the negligence of his own family. Whatever the reason behind the negligence of the old parents, but the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizen Act, 2007 has given a hope for the aged.
So the topic was discussed in a programme which is organized by People's Cultural Centre (PECUC) at Redcross Bhawan on Friday. PECUC is one of the leading voluntary organisation in the city working for the upliftment of women, children, aged, dalits and tribal. PECUC programme director Anuradha Mohanty was presiding over the seminar. Here State social welfare board chairperson Sulata Deo joined as chief guest while BMC slum development officer Srimant Mishra, Help Age India State programme manager Panchanan Pradhan and Elder representative Surendra Bhoi joined as guest of honour.
The major intension of the seminar was protection and the promotion of the senior citizen in the society and senior citizen maintenance act 2007 was also the major topic of the discussion. In the discussion article -4, article-21 and article -19 of 2007 act were elaborately described by the participants among others. PECUC also arranged an art competition among children in this occasion.
