Leftist parties to form alternative platform in State

BHUBANESWAR: According to the July 1 declaration made by four left parties in a convention in New Delhi, State units of the left parties like CPI, CPI (M) and Forward Bloc in a State-level Leftist Convention here on Sunday welcomed the alternative political platform and called upon the democratic parties and mass organisations to support it.

Attending the convention, senior politburo member of Communist Party of India (CPI) AB Bardhan said the people of the country want an alternative political platform to run the country. The common men can’t bear corruption, misrule and mindless economic policy in the country anymore which was followed by the NDA then and the UPA now.

“If any party does politics for its own benefit to stay in the power, it should be rejected immediately. Politics should be designed for the wellbeing for the nation and its people,” said Bardhan, adding, “Let us go forward towards building a powerful political alternative in the State like in the Centre.”

Bardhan said the left parties would conduct a political campaign to mobilise support for the platform. He discussed about the left parties’ 10-point programme of the alternative policy platform in the economic, political and social spheres.

The 10-point programme highlighted the core issues of the country including implementation of land reform measures, employment for youths, nationalisation of mining and oil resources, disapproval of FDI in retail trade, introduction of universal PDS system, firm action to curb communal forces, no privatisation of education and health services and adoption of an independent foreign policy.

CPI leader Narayan Reddy said the left parties would organise a Samabesh at the Lower PMG in the last week of October. They would create a political platform other than BJP and Congress, he added.

Among others, CPI leader Shibaji Patnaik, CPI (M) State secretary Janardan Pati, Forward Bloc leader Purnachandra Padhi and around 300 communist workers attended the convention.
