Rajendra Sharma becomes twin-city police commissioner

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Monday appointed Dr Rajendra Prashad Sharma as new police commissioner of the Commissionerate Police Bhubaneswar-Cuttack. Sharma would be the fourth officer to hold the post.

Sharma, a 1986 batch IPS officer, who is currently posted as IGP of the National Security Guards (NSG) at New Delhi, will succeed Sunil Ray.   He had earlier served as SP in Baleswar, Kalahandi and Brahmapur and then DIG (central range), sources said.

Ray, the outgoing commissioner, has been transferred to police headquarters as additional DG, Human Rights Protection Cell. Ray, a 1987 batch IPS officer, had been the commissioner of police from May 4, 2012 after succeeding BK Sharma.

Ray while speaking to the reporters here said that he has given much effort to streamline the Commissionerate system to control crime in the city. “I’ve given priority for the immediate registration of FIRs lodged by the people. We have detected successfully all most all the cases,” said Ray, adding, “Our performance was much above than the State benchmark.”
