Earthquake hits Odisha; people panicked



--measured 6.0 on Richter scale: IMD

BHUBANESWAR: A mild earthquake created panicky in the State which occurred at 9.52 pm on Wednesday. The intensity of the earthquake in the city was rated at six on the Richter scale of 12, which categorises the tremor in the capital as being a ‘slight’ one.

“An earthquake of moderate intensity having its magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale occurred at 21 hours 52 minutes IST on May 21 with its epicentre at Latitude 18.3 degree North and Long 87.9 degree East in Bay of Bengal about 310 km Southeast of Seismological Observatory, Bhubaneswar,” said a release issued by the local Met office.

No damage to property or harm to anyone was reported due to the mild earthquake felt in several parts of the State, State Relief Commissioner (SRC) official sources said. 

According to reports, the mild tremors were felt in different parts of the State including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Baripada, Nayagarh, Anandpur, Ganjam and Aska.
