Journalist killed in Ganjam

BRAHMAPUR: In a daring act, some unidentified miscreants brutally killed a young journalist near Khallikote police station on the outskirts of the Khallikote town in Ganjam district on Tuesday night.

According to reports, Tarun Kumar Acharya (35) of Bikrampur, about 15 km away from Khallikote, was attacked with sharp weapons by some miscreants at a lonely place near Khallikote police station and Excise office at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday when he was returning to his village.

After getting information from the locals, the police reached the spot and Tarun’s body lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit open.

Sources said, Tarun, who was working as a stringer for a television news channel, had written a report against some influential persons for creating nuisance in their area. The miscreants might have killed the scribe to take revenge of that report, added the sources.

The reason behind the murder of the young reporter or the identity of the assailants is not known yet. Police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the killers.
