Irate locals block NH protesting BDA demolition

BHUBANESWAR: Irate locals of Barmunda Gaon and members of a youth club blocked National Highway-5 near Barmunda overbridge on Tuesday protesting demolition of a building without issuing a public notice.

Due to the road blockade, vehicles stranded for over one and a half hours on the NH. Six platoons of police forces were deployed there to control the crowd. The police at first tried to disperse the mob, but the adamant locals didn’t pay heed to the police’s request.

Finally, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar Nitinjit Singh pacified the irate mob and told them to send a delegation to discuss about the matter with the General Administration department who has the authority to look into the matter. After getting assurance from the officers, the locals cleared the road.

According to reports, the BDA demolished an illegal structure which was made inside the Barmunda ground. After demolishing the structure, when the bulldozer was entering into the Barmunda Gaon, the locals all of a sudden protested the move and staged a road blockade in front of the ground. “Without issuing a notice, how can the enforcement authority and his team demolish the buildings,” said a youth club member.
When contacted, the BDA authorities didn’t pick up our phone calls.
