Arms smuggler held in Odisha's Ganjam dist



--2 pistols, 4 mousers, 32 live bullets seized 

BRAHMAPUR: An arms smuggler was arrested from Mahuri Kalua Square on the outskirts of the city while returning to Bhubaneswar after dealing with his customer, said the Brahmapur Sadar police here on Friday.
The smuggler identified as Subhendu Samantaray (27) of Chhania village in Khurda district, presently staying at Saheed Nagar in the capital city, was supplying fire arms after buying those from outside the State.

According to reports, the police caught Samantaray on Thursday evening at Mahuri Kalua Square when they were checking vehicles entering into the city. After noticing suspicious behavior of Samantaray, the police interrogated him and found a packet in which illegal guns were kept. 

The police team arrested the smuggler and seized two US-made pistols, four mousers, 32 live ammunitions, a mobile phone and a bike without valid documents from the possession of the smuggler. 

During interrogation, Samantaray admitted that he had come to supply the fire arms to Anil Nayak of Patapur area in Ganjam district. He also informed that Anil Nayak, who works as driver of a politician, had called him over phone to deliver the guns on May 31. 

On Thursday, the smuggler reached Patapur and inquired about Nayak, but could not meet him. While he was returning from Patapur, the police caught him red handed. 

He was booked under the Arms Act and forwarded to a local court here, said Sadar SDPO Hari Har Pani.
