BHUBANESWAR: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram
on Tuesday said that a detailed Tribal Map of India would be prepared utilising
the technology of Geographical Information System (GIS) which would help the Government
while implementing different programmes and introducing new schemes and projects
for tribal people.
Oram said that several ongoing programmes, projects and
plans aimed at welfare of tribal people and development of tribal areas would be
closely monitored through application of Information Technology so that
detailed information regarding different aspects of the programmes and schemes
such as status, expenditure and beneficiaries will be available in public
domain and everybody will have access to these information.
The Minister emphasized on all out effort in making
Scheduled Tribe and other Traditional Forest Dwellers more aware about the Forest
Rights Act (FRA)-2006 so that they can exercise their rights under the act more
assertively.
Oram further said that he would have meeting at
regular intervals with Ministers and Secretaries of Tribal Welfare Departments
of different States so that region and community specific issues can be
addressed more effectively. He would also meet MPs and MLAs representing tribal
people and tribal areas from time to time to know the specific local concerns
and problems being faced by tribal people, Oram added.
