Five arrested in Panchupalli firing case


BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police arrested five persons here on Sunday in connection with firing on Deepak Kumar Pradhan of Panchupalli village under Airfield police station in the city on Tuesday. Contract was given for the firing, police revealed. 

They were identified as Kuna alias Ranjit Champati (22), Pintu alias Satyapriya Biswal (22), Babu alias Ashok Mahapatra (23) of Retang, Madhab alias Mahadev Mandal of Dumduma and Manmath Barala (24) of Tamando in Khurda.

Kuna and Pintu had framed the conspiracy and given supari Rs 1 lakh to kill Deepak. The duo had given Rs 30,000 in advance to Madhab for the firing, but fortunately Deepak escaped from the other bullets. Police seized two bikes from the culprits’ possession which were used on the day of the firing, while another accused of the case is absconding.

It may be noted that Deepak was injured when some unidentified miscreants fired at him near his village on Tuesday. His health condition is now stable, sources said.
