Maoists torch phone exchange in Bandhugaon

JEYPORE: On the sidelines of the two-day bandh call in Narayanpatna and Bandhugaon by Andhra-Odisha Boarder Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of CPI (Maoist), the ultras torched a BSNL telephone exchange at Alamanda of Bandhugaon block in Koraput district on Saturday.

In the wee hours of Friday, the red rebels had torched five vehicles, tipper and few other excavating machines at a contractor’s camp at Pendajam village under Semliguda police limits.

Communication from Laxmipur to Narayanpatna and towards Bandhugaon completely blocked as the roads were blocked by felled trees, while communication between Parvatipuram in Andhra Pradesh and Narayanpatna could not be established as ultras have dug up the roads in some places.

Demanding withdrawal of the forces, ban on liquor in tribal areas, land rights for tribals and shutting of paramilitary forces camps in the region, the ultras have continued their strike and blockade in the area.
