ID market vendors protest demolition drive

BHUBANESWAR: Small-scale vendors of Indradhanu Market at Nayapalli in the city strongly protested the demolition drive ordered by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and demanded permanent Pindi (vending space) to run their business here on Thursday.

To demolish the encroachment from the vegetable market, BDA officials reached there with bull dozer, but due to strong protest the demolition drive could not take place.

Under the banner of the Indradhanu Market Small-scale Vendors Association, hundreds of vendors first opposed the BDA officials to stop the demolition drive in the market, but they did not listen to them. Then the vendors strongly protested the officials by torching tyres on the road and some of them slept in front of the bull dozer protesting the demolition drive.

“Once BDA had told us to stay here till we are provided with some space for business purpose. But now the BDA is using police to start demolition drive,” said association secretary Anjan Rath.
