Four landmines seized in Ganjam



BRAHMAPUR: The joint forces of 127 CRPF battalion and Ganjam police recovered four landmines from an abandoned Maoist camp at Nepapadi under Gajalbadi panchayat of Sorada block in Ganjan district on Thursday.

During combing operation at the tri-junction area of Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal district, the joint forces found two landmines weighing 20 kg each and the other two 15 kg each, 25 metre long electric wire, 12 electronic detonator and 20 pieces of polythene from the camp at Nepapadi jugle.

Ganjam Superintendent of Police Asish Singh said the joint forces also recovered several other materials used for making explosives from the area. The recovered landmines were defused on the spot by the bomb disposal squad, he added.

No Maoist activist was, however, caught during the operation. The combing operation was intensified in the areas after getting the explosives from the camp, said the police sources.
