BDA, BMC clear 5 acres of encroachment in city

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the General Administration (GA) on Monday conducted a demolition drive to clear a five-acre Government land encroached by some people in front of MCL staff quarters colony under the Mancheswar police limits here.

According to a BDA official, the people had built permanent structures like pucca houses after encroaching the land. “We will demolish all 25 illegal structures by Tuesday to free the land from encroachment,” said the official.

To control any untoward situation during demolition, three platoons of police forces along with a section of women police force were deployed at the spot. Mancheswar Inspector-In-Charge along with 11 Sub-Inspectors were present during the demolition.

Notably, the land would be given to the BMC after clearing the encroachment. The BMC would set up a multispecialty hospital in the land, official sources said.
