Auto drivers to support all India strike on Feb 28

BHUBANESWAR: Supporting all India strike on February 28 by the Trade Union Centre, the All Odisha Auto Chalak Mahasangha (AOACM) called 12 hour bandh in all over the State on Tuesday to press their demands before the Government.

The members of the Mahasangha said the Auto rickshaw service has restored the public transport system in the State and continuing their service for years. Though, they are working in the unorganised sector, still they are not getting health insurance, social security, pension and provident fund like labourers of other unorganised sector, they said.

In their six-point charter of demands, the members demanded the Government should revise the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 to give some privilege to the Auto rickshaw drivers, to make auto bay for the passengers along with auto parking zones in the city, to stop liquor shops on roadside and to check police harassment.

“We have been demanding before the Government through dharnas, rallies, agitation, strike and discussion, but the Government is not hearing us. That’s why we have decided to support the all India strike to press our demand,” said General Secretary of the AOACM Padman Kumar Samal.
