BHUBANESWAR: Demanding resignation of the State Commission for Women (SCW) chairperson Jyoti Panigrahy on her distorted report on Pipili gang rape issue, workers and supporters of Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (OPMCC) gheraoed the SCW office here on Tuesday.
Members of the OPMCC including President Bijaya Laxmi Sahoo, All India Mahila Congress Committee (AIMCC) secretary Asima Mahananda wearing black badges and flaunting placards bearing slogans against the BJD Government and Women Commission demanded the SCW chairperson should immediately be arrested for submitting a faulty report.
Besides demanding CBI inquiry and the resignation of the chairperson, AIMCC secretary also demanded the Commission should withdraw the report and make apology before the people of the State for submitting a faulty report. While OPMCC president Sahoo said the report is an insult for the victim’s family. “We are shocked by the report submitted by the SCW chairperson and we condemn that report, which is not based on ground reality,” she added.
Members of the women congress also alleged that the commission is working like an agent to save the Government. From the moral ground the chairperson should resign from her post, demanded the members of the party. “If fences would devour crop, who will protect it. Similarly women commission have lost its faith to protect women’s right,” said Sahu.
