Trade union’s all India strike today


-- Paradip Port operations likely to be hit

BHUBANESWAR/PARADIP: The prominent trade union organisations of the State with other social organisations are going to observe statewide bandh on Tuesday to support all India strike call given by national-level trade union centres. Due to 12 hour bandh starting from 6 am to 6 pm, all forms of transportation services will likely to be hit in the State.
Employees of Reserve Bank and NABARD along with All Odisha Bank Employees Association will join in the bandh. “All banks in the State will be closed on Tuesday,” said bank employees’ association president Jagdish Jena.

Even the members of the All Odisha Auto Chalak Mahasangha will join in the bandh supporting all India strike to press their demands before the Government. For 12 hours the Auto rickshaw service will be closed across the State.

Seven trade union organisations along with other social organisations will start their procession from Rajmahal in the city. “We want to observe the bandh peacefully, if the Government creates any problem it will prove costly for the Government,” said CITU president Naba Mohanty.

In their 10-point charter of demands, the trade union leaders demanded the Government should bring back the black money stashed in the foreign bank, decreasing of price hike and other demands for the betterment of the country and its people.

Similarly, an all India industrial strike called by the major trade unions of India has threatened to paralyse all business activities at Paradip. All banks have notified their customers of banks going to be closed on February 28.

The strike is likely to affect the Paradip Port cargo handling operations too. Though, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) is trying to negotiate with the various union leaders, the unions were determined to join the strike.

The local administration, police, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), PPT management are keeping a tight vigil to avoid any law and order situation arising out of the strike call on 28th February. All schools and college management are contemplating to close their respective institutions.
