High profile Laptop loot in city


--CCTV recorded looters activity

BHUBANESWAR: High profile looters looted a computer shop at Saheed Nagar in the city on the wee hours of Thursday by breaking open the shutters. A gang of six looters have looted 20 laptops from the shop, Ashirbad Computers and Services, which was recorded through CCTV camera installed by the shop owner.

As per the CCTV footage, around 5.15 am the looters came one by one and started their work according to their plan. Among them, one clad on a blazer, behaving himself as the owner of the shop, was passing up and down in front of the store to keep eye on the passersby and others were opening the shutter to take away the laptops from the shop.

One was standing with bed sheets to cover the handiworks of other looters, while another man entered into the shop and sent the laptops one by one to his fellow looters. Within 15 minutes, they completed their work and left the place with the laptops.

According to the owner Rudrakant Mahapatra, the looters have taken 20 laptops worth Rs 10 lakh from his shop. “When I came to my shop at the morning, lower side of the shutter was opened. I informed the police immediately and when the police came, we entered into the shop and found 20 laptops were not there,” said shop owner Mahapatra.

While, the security guard who was in the duty said that he had no knowledge about the loot. But the owner alleged that the guard was not there at the time of looting, though the guard keeps on saying that he was there till 6 am.

It was not the first incident, before three such incidents had happened in Saheed Nagar area within one and a half month duration. On February 13, loot was taken place at a Nokia mobile center where mobiles worth around Rs 15 lakh looted. Regarding this loot incidents which have been happening in the area, the association of IT shops met the DCP to take appropriate action against the looters. On the other hand, the Commissionerate Police have started investigation into the matter.

“Three incidents happened in the area, but the police have not taken any adequate step to nab the looters. This time police got CCTV footage which will help them for their investigation, but we want a positive result out of that,” said an IT shop owner Kisan Patnaik.
