BHUBANESWAR: After failing to
achieve expected results in the High School Certificate examination, seven girl
students committed suicide, two were critical after consuming poison, in
different parts of the State on Thursday after declaration of the matric
results.
In Jajpur district, three girl
students ended their lives in their houses after committing suicide. Pratima
Jena, daughter of Sankarsana Jena, of Haripur high school under Bari
block and Subhashree Sahoo of Badapala high school under Binjharpur block
committed suicide by hanging themselves in their houses after they plucked in
the HSC examination. Another girl student
Sarojini Samal, daughter of Suvenddu Samal, of Damodar Vidyapeetha in the
district ended her life by consuming poison.
On Thursday, HSC
result was out and they failed to clear the examination for which they
committed suicide, said the police officials. Police seized the bodies and sent
to the district Government hospital at Jajpur for autopsy, said the police.
In Kendrapada, Kalyani Das (14), daughter
of Banchhanidhi Das, of Garjanga high school under Marshaghai police station
limit committed suicide by consuming poison after losing her mental balance
when she came to know that she was failed to succeed in Matric examination, said
the police adding, “The body of the girl was later sent for autopsy to
Kendrapada district Head Quarters hospital.”
Similarly, Sasmita Sethi of
Padmapur Malti Devi Girls’ high school in Bhadrak district, Banita Sahu of
Sarangagarh high school in Kandhamal district and Mami Gauda of Digapahandi
Government Girls’ high school in Ganjam district committed suicide after
failing in matric exam.
While two girl students of Soro
in Baleswar district attempted suicide by consuming poison. The condition of
the duo is critical and they are under treatment.
