BHUBANESWAR: A team of experts from the State Archeology on Saturday inspected the Mairigiria temple inside the Lingaraj temple premises after falling down of Dadhi Nauti from the temple in lightning on Friday afternoon.
The team conducted a primary inspection
in the temple. They visited the Mairigiria temple situated in the south-east
part of the main temple. Officials of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI)
have taken charge of the damaged part of the 11th-century shrine following the
mishap.
It was not the first temple which
is affected in lightning. Before, Aakhandalamani shaiva shrine at Aaradi and
Sakhigopal temple in Puri were affected in lightning. Though, some techniques
and devices like lightning arrester are being used by the ASI and State
Archeology to protect the big temples from the lightning, but it is only for
the temples having more than 50 feat heights.
According to the experts, the
Government should protect the century old temples by arranging some modern techniques
like lightning arrester and other systems. It may be noted that the State Archeology
and the ASI has taken up 218 and 73 old temples of the State respectively.
