BHUBANESWAR: Not only Legal
Service but also quality legal support is essential in the process of
adjudication and delivery of justice, said Justice Bira Kishore Mishra of the Odisha
High Court while inaugurating a 3-day summer course for young lawyers of the
State organised by the Committee for Legal Aid to Poor (CLAP) with support from
UNDP and the Union Ministry of Law and Justice at the Sikshya O’ Anusandhan
University here on Monday.
Justice Mishra pointed out that
the knowledge of procedural law came inculcate confidence among lawyers in
their initial year’s particle who conduct cases of various nature especially
Human Rights matters of disadvantaged of people.
According to CLAP president Dr
Bikash Das, the three days residential training programme is intended to
enhance the legal knowledge of young lawyers on procedural matters especially
awareness about various judicial and quasi- judicial institutions, jurisdiction
of court, rights of accused person and plea bargaining.
Dr Das said that the opportunity
to learn about legal procedure in matters of human rights is conspicuously
inadequate in the conventional judicial system. Therefore, CLAP strives to
encourage young lawyers to build hands on experience regarding procedural
aspect of protection of human rights.
The training programme was
attended by 20 young lawyers from different districts in the State. Among
others, Utkal Law
University professor Pabira
Pattanaik, Director SC & ST Research Training Institute Dr Preamandanda
Panda, Former State Information Commissioner Prof Radhamohan, senior advocate
Laxmidhar Mishra, Professor in Law Raghunath Pattanik along with law professors
and advocates were present.
