Civil society appeals Maoists to release MLA, Italian


BHUBANESWAR: To express solidarity in the voice to free the Italian tourists along with the Laxmipur MLA, members of the Odisha Nagarik Samaj (ONAS) organised a solidarity demonstration here on Sunday.  When the news came about the release of one Italian tourist Claudio Colangelo, Sarbodaya leader turned Rajyasabha MP AV Swamy attending the Press meet and solidarity demonstration expressed happiness over the decision of the Maoists to free one Italian without any condition.

The members of the civil society appealed the Maoists to release the MLA and other Italian tourist without any condition. They demanded the Government should fulfill previous demands of the Maoists and provide land, water and forest rights to tribal people. They also said the Maoists and the Government should come with a consensus to create peaceful atmosphere in the Maoists areas by putting down the arm and ammunition for the shake of the development of the State.  

“I’m very happy that our Maoists friends have released one of the Italian tourists for which we are grateful to them. It is a good thing that they have realized not to involve foreigners in our internal disputes with our own Government. Therefore, I congratulate them doing that and I express happiness,” said Swamy.      

Among others, ONAS working President Er Lalit Mohan Patnaik, Member Secretary of ONAS Zia Martin Luther Hindustani, senior advisor to Election Commission of India Dr Bhagban Prakash, Bhudan and Sarboday activist Aditya Patnaik, Prof Jantrana Parikshit and members of ONAS were present.
