Sangram shifted from R Udaygiri jail to P’khemundi

PARLAKHEMUNDI: Maoist interlocutor Dandapani Mohanty’s son Sangram was shifted to Parlakhemundi Government hospital on Sunday afternoon as his health condition deteriorated. After ten days’ fast in R Udaygiri sub jail of Gajapati district protesting police arrest, Sangram finally agreed to take food after getting Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) chief Pyari Mohapatra’s letter.

Sangram was admitted in the district hospital here amid tight security. OJM representatives Amiya Pandab, Santosh Mohapatra and others reached the hospital to meet him, but they could not get the chance to meet as the police didn’t allow them. The OJM members handed over the letter of OJM chief to Sangram through a doctor. After getting the letter, Sangram broke his fast in the hospital.

On Saturday, Sangram’s family members filed a bail petition before the Gajapati district judge which was accepted by the court, but the hearing has been postponed to December 20, informed Sangram’s advocate Upendra Nayak.

In an audiotape issued on Sunday, Odisha Maovadi Party chief Sabyasachi Panda said Sangram’s arrest was illegal. He criticised the State Government for arresting the common people intentionally to take political revenge.
