PARLAKHEMUNDI: Family members of Sangram
Mohanty on Saturday filed a bail petition before the Gajapati district judge
which was accepted by the court, but the hearing has been postponed to December
20, informed Sangram’s advocate Upendra Nayak.
“On the basis of humanity,
Sangram needs the bail as his health condition is deteriorating fast,” Nayak
said. It may be noted that Sangram’s bail plea was rejected at the R Udaygiri
JMFC court in Gajapati district and he was sent to the R Udaygiri sub jail.
Maoist interlocutor Dandapani
Mohanty’s son Sangram, who was arrested by the police in the case of supplying
of arms to the Maoists, is on a hunger strike in the jail protesting his arrest
by the police. His hunger strike entered into 10th day on Saturday.
Sangram is taking glucose twice a
day after request from the jail officials, but refused to take any type of
food. Dr Amulya Misra of district headquarters hospital here and doctor from R
Udaygiri has referred Sangram to the MKCG
Medical College Hospital
and the SCB Medical
College Hospital
or any standard hospital at Visakhapatnam
for his treatment as his condition is deteriorating day by day.
But the jail authorities said
that due to the absence of required escort, he could not be shifted. Two
doctors are on duty to treat him in case of any emergency, jail sources said.
