CCTV installed for tiger care


BHUBANESWAR: To keep a close watch on pregnant tigress Sara, the State Government have installed CCTV camera in the 32 enclosure of the tigress in Nandankanan zoo. Following the death of five tiger cubs in the zoo on November 18, the Government had declared to install the camera inside the enclosure of the pregnant tigress to monitor pregnancy and care of the newborn cubs.

The zoo celebrated its 52nd foundation day on Thursday here. On this occasion, employees of the zoo were felicitated by the zoo authorities. In the meeting the officials said that death percentage of the zoo is three per cent, which is lower than the national’s six per cent.   

“For the first time our zoo installed CCTV camera for monitoring the pregnancy of a tigress. According to our next plan, we will arrange bear safari for the visitors, which will be the second in the country, provide safety enclosure for the visitors to see the bears from very near,” said Director of Nandankanan zoo Sudarshan Panda.
