2 die in jumbo attack in Koraput



JEYPORE: Two people were killed when a stampeding elephant trampled them at a village in Koraput district on Sunday night.

The persons were identified as Sanai Muduli and Pitambar Muduli of Jamjhola village under Borigumma block in the district. The elephants trampled the duo when they were fast asleep in their home.

Protesting the jumbo menace in the area, the irate villagers blocked road at Borigumma in the district on Monday and demanded compensation to the families of the deceased. Later the forest officials reached the spot and assured for compensation after which the villagers call off the road blockade.

Notably, a person was killed due to elephant attack on February 9 in the area. “It is a regular incident that marauding elephants are entering into the village and destroying crop and attacking human being in the area,” said a villagers.
