Naidu Commission holds hearing on Kandhamal riot



BHUBANESWAR: “No care and protection was given to Swami Laxmananada Saraswati as a result the miscreants easily killed him and that murder paves the way for the Kandhamal riot,” said Odisha Minority Forum president Swarupananda Patra in his affidavit submitted before Justice AS Naidu Commission here on Saturday. The Commission is probing into the 2008 killing of Hindu religious leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati in Kandhamal and the subsequent communal riots in the district.

Pradeep Muni of Kandhamal district had alleged that riot was fiercely broke out after the statement of Patra in the media. Considering the complaint, Patra was summoned to be present before the Commission on the day of the hearing.

Patra attending the hearing submitted his affidavit and denied the allegation. “After the murder of the Swami, a hate campaign was carried out as a result the people got affected badly in the riot,” said Patra.
