Hundreds of co-operative employees arrested



BHUBANESWAR: Demanding appropriate salary fixed by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, members of the Odisha Co-operative Employees Co-ordination Committee (OCECC) staged demonstration in front of the State Assembly here on Monday. Hundreds of members of the committee were arrested during the demonstration.

The OCECC members led by its president Harish Gaurang came in a procession started from Master Canteen and staged a rally at the Lower PMG protesting the delay in fulfilling of their five-point charter of demands.

According to Gaurang, Minister for Rural Development and Cooperation Bikram Keshari Arukh had assured them to take appropriate steps in fulfilling their demands before November 30 last year, but it could not be fulfilled.    

The employees also demanded medical treatment facility, provident fund and gratuity fund facility, increasing of retirement age to 60 years and promotion in time. Among others, Abhimanyu Nisank, Ghanashyam Jena, Digambar Nayak, Sridhar Choudhury and members of the Committee participated in the rally.
