PCC urges Guv to initiate action against CM

BHUBANESWAR: Protesting the police excess on Congress workers in Balangir and anti-Posco agitators in Dhinkia-Govindpur area in Jagatsinghpur district, the Congress leaders led by Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik met Governor MC Bhandare here on Tuesday and handed over a four page memorandum regarding failure of the State Government to control law and order situation of the State.

Opposing the failure and inaction of the police, deteriorating law and order situations across the State and corruption by the Government machinery, the Congress staged demonstration in front of the Raj Bhawan here. After meeting the Governor, the PCC chief urged him to take appropriate action against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and to arrest him as per law. “There is no democracy, rule of law and constitution in the State for which the Chief Minister is responsible,” he said.

The Congress leaders said the party activists had protested peacefully by democratic means during the visit of the Chief Minister to Balangir, but the demonstrators were brutally assaulted in an undemocratic and barbaric way by the BJD activist in presence of the Chief Minister, local MP, MLA and the police. The police helped the assailants instead of protecting the demonstrators which clearly shows that there was a conspiracy by the Chief Minister and his party men to assault congress workers, they alleged.
