Maoists kill former Sarpanch in Koraput

--Threaten BDO in Kalahandi to abduct
--Two CRPF jawan injured in gun battle in Malkangiri

JEYPORE/BHUBANESWAR: Even as DGP Prakash Mishra and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik vowed at the ongoing Senior Police Officers’ Conference that anti-Maoist operations would be further intensified in the State, Maoists on Friday night killed a former sarpanch of Jaguguda panchayat in Bandhugaon block in Koraput district. The deceased was Krushna Kalapa of Jaguguda under Bandhugaon block.

According to Krushna’s wife Damayanti, her husband was taken by a group of people from her house on Friday. Later she heard that the kidnapper group buried her husband in a jungle after killing him.

The Bandhugaon police suspected that the person was killed by the Maoists. Cause of the murder is yet to be known, the police sources added.

Last month two villagers were killed by the Maoists at Kumbhariput near Krushna’s village. The people of Bandhugaon area are in panicky after the serial murder of innocent people there.

In Kalahandi district, the outlawed CPI (Maoist) zonal committee in a letter threatened Golmunda block BDO in the district to abduct him. The letter was found near the computer section of the block office which was caught fire on Saturday.

The discovery of a poster purportedly written and left by the Maoists at the place of the fire in the block office has spread panic in the area.

In Malkangiri, Communist Party of India (Maoist) Malkangiri division leader Punam Chand in an audio tape issued on Saturday threatened the SPOs of the district to resign from their job. As most of the time the SPOs inform about the activities of the ultras to the senior police officers, the Red rebels targeted the officers.

Chand stated that a woman Maoist Sirisha was killed by the forces in an encounter on Friday.

During the last two months, the Malkangiri and Koraput Maoists wrecked havoc in these districts by killing 11 people and destroying public property and construction materials of the contractors. To take revenge of the Silakuta forest encounter, the Maoists have started the destruction and mindless killing of civilians branding them police informers.
