M’giri border under security forces’ scanner

--Efforts on to check Maoists intrusion

MALKANGIRI/BHUBANESWAR: After getting intelligence inputs about Chhattisgarh Maoists’ intrusion into Odisha border, the security forces along with the Odisha police have started keeping strict vigil on the movement of the ultras entering into bordering areas of Malkangiri district, said Malkangiri SP Akhileswar Singh on Tuesday.

Talking to The Pioneer, Singh said the ultras are trying to sneak into Odisha border to get respite from anti-Maoist operations which is going on in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. “Our district police with the BSF jawans have stepped up security in the area,” he said.

Sources said the security personnel in Sukma have intensified combing operations after the red rebels reportedly targeted an Indian Air Force (IAF) MI-17 helicopter on Saturday afternoon.

Inspector General of Police, Operations, SK Priyadarsi said they are alert on the issue. “Operations in border area are a regular affair and our security forces will not give any opportunity to let the ultras enter into our State,” said Priyadarsi.
