--State to continue protest
Polavaram project: CM
MALKANGIRI: The much debated and BJD-led-Government’s
flagship programme 1-a-kg rice scheme was launched by Chief Minister Naveen
Patnaik at a State-level function at Dandakaranya ground in the Maoists’
heartland Malkangiri district amid tight security of the Border Security Forces
and the local police on Saturday. The scheme is likely to provide food security
to over 58 lakh BPL families in the State.
While launching the scheme by
distributing rice to the people of Bonda tribe, Patnaik said the scheme was an
endeavor to include the common people in the economical development of the
State. The State Government has started the scheme to help out poor people
during price rise of essential commodities, he added. “The BPL card holders,
persons with disabilities, beneficiaries of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, Annapurna
and APL families of KBK region of the State
will get benefit out of the new scheme,” said, adding, “The State Government
will bear all the expenses of the scheme.”
Patnaik also said the State
Government always tries to become nearer to the common people for whom they
have taken decision for restructuring of blocks and tehsils in the district and
that would come in effect from April 1 this year. “We will continue opposing
Polavaram project for the sake of the people of the district,” he said.
Going in an inauguration spree
during his one-day visit to this tribal dominated district, Patnaik flagged off
as many as a dozen projects and laid foundation stones for series of projects,
mostly in urban areas covering two reserved assembly segments of Chitrakonda
and Malkangiri.
The Chief Minister laid the
foundation stones for a new office building in the District Education Office
here. He inaugurated Deputy Director (Agricultures) office building at
Lathiaguda, soil testing laboratory building, multi purpose hall in the Sileru
Hostel premises, child care unit and digital X-ray machine at district
headquarters hospital during his visit.
During his visit to Balimela on
the day, Pattnaik laid foundation stones for town hall, SHG capacity building
centre, Krushak Bhawan, new market complex at Kali Chowk and inaugurated the
water treatment plant there.
Among others, Food Supplies and
Consumer Welfare Minister Pratap Keshari Deb, School and Mass Education
Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda and top BJD workers of the district were present.
