CPM demands withdrawal of police force from Posco area



BHUBANESWAR: Protesting illegal land acquisition for Posco Company at Dhinkia-Govindpur area in Jagatsinghpur by the State Government with the help of police, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged demonstration here demanding withdrawal of police force from the Dhinkia area. The party leaders further demanded stopping of land acquisition process till the Land Acquisition Bill is passed in the Parliament.

The State Government has to give the forest rights to the local people according to the Forest Rights Act, the leaders said, adding, “The Chief Minister has to solve the Posco problem by calling an all party meeting very soon.”

The party condemned the behaviour of police and local administration during land acquisition for Posco in the Dhinkia-Govindapur area. Among others, CPI (M) Bhubaneswar zone secretary Suresh Panigrahy, regional committee secretary Prabhat Panigrahy, SFI State secretary Sarat Das, Adivasi leader Sal Marandi, slum leader Anjan Nath and women leader Nirupama Nayak participated in the demonstration.
