BJD wins 21 out of 28-ward Baripada Municipality

BHUBANESWAR: Continuing its winning spree, ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) cleared the path to form the council by securing a lion’s share in the Baripada Municipality polls held on Thursday.

Out of the total 28 wards, the results of which were declared on Friday, the BJD got 21 wards. While the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won two wards and the Independent candidates won four wards in the polls.

But the BJP and Congress couldn’t perform well in the polls. The BJP candidates secured only one ward, whereas the Congress failed to open its account.

The elections to the posts of chairman of Baripada municipality (reserved for women candidate) and deputy chief of the ULB will be held on February 13 and March 1 respectively.
