Maoists appeal M’giri public to boycott polls

MALKANGIRI: Members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) Malkangiri division appealed the people of the district to boycott the General Election protesting Government apathy towards development of their region.

Maoist leader Rukdhar in an interview with a regional TV news channel said the elected representatives just forget the people after winning the election. They never visit their area to inquire about the condition of the people which is very unfortunate, he added.

He said the State Government didn’t take any step to provide basic amenities including water facility, road connectivity, proper execution of welfare programmes, healthcare, Indira Awas Yojana for poor and launch service to the cut-off area. In spite of repeated demands of the poor people, the Government didn’t pay heed to their demands, he added.

“If the Government doesn’t take any concrete steps to solve basic problems of the common people, why the people of the area will cast vote for their representatives,” questioned Rukdhar, adding, “The MLAs and MPs never visit their area after getting elected by the common people.”

Rukdhar said the Government is trying to suppress the peoples’ movement by arresting their leaders branding them Maoists. “By using military forces, the Government has created terror in the cut-off area,” he added.
