Four of inter-State looter gang nabbed



BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested four inter-State looters for their involvement in three cash robbery cases under different police stations in the city last year. Police have seized Rs 30,000 and a motor cycle without any registration number from their possession.

The accused were identified as Anil Singh (32) of Golahat from Assam, Tipu Singh (28) of Agra, Aryan Singh (25) and Joni Guala (40), both of Allahabad.

Twin City Commissioner Dr R P Sharma said the four were involved in three major cases of robbery in the city last year – the loot of Rs 4.7 lakh in cash from a city-based trader near the State Bank of India (SBI) branch at IDCO Tower on December 30, loot of Rs 1.4 lakh from a contractor near Sriya Square on December 11and loot of more than Rs 2 lakh reported at Kharvela police station on June 24.

Sharma said the gang was also active in Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. They used to keep close watch over different banks in the city and loot the cash from unsuspecting depositors. They used to operate with the help of bikes, he added.

The Commissioner said that a team will be sent to Uttar Pradesh shortly to find out more about these professional robbers.
