Cong begins FIR lodge campaign on BPL rice

BHUBANESWAR: A team of BPL beneficiaries and Congress workers led by Bhubaneswar District Congress Committee president Suvendu Mohanty on Thursday lodged FIRs at the Capital police station and the Kharvelnagar police station against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Pratap Keshari Deb for reducing 10kg rice from the quota of BPL families.

The Congress workers have been alleging that the BJD Government is distributing 25 kg rice through PDS instead of 35 kg rice sanctioned by the Central Government.

Among others, senior Congress leaders Umarani Patra, Manoranajan Dash, Rubi Kanungo and Santosh Mohanty went with the complainants to the police station.

The campaign started from Bhubaneswar would continue till July 17 in all over the State. Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Jayadev Jena would remain present in eight districts- Cuttack, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Baleswar and Keonjhar.

To make the campaign grand success and to persuade the BPL families, PCC has appointed 33 party observers in all the organisational districts.
